EMAG’s new VLC 100 G Vertical Grinding Center is focused on producing large quantity components in short cycle times for the automotive industry.

In order to produce large batch components quickly, the VLC 100 G incorporates diverse elements to streamline production and function easily. The VGC is focused on small chucked components with a maximum diameter of 100 mm, such as gearwheels, planetary gears, chain gears and flanged components. The machine is able to multitask: while one component is being grinded, another workpiece is being readied by conveyors for machining.
To save more time, the center can also use two grinding spindles on a job. Each spindle can be programmed to perform operations, so one spindle can perform a rough grind while the second performs a finishing operation.
“For the removal of large amounts [of material], two wheels offer a shorter cycle time than one, with the first wheel designed to do the rough-grinding and the second one in charge of finish-grinding work,” said EMAG Managing Director Dr. Guido Hegener.

The VLC 100 G is compatible with EMAG’s proprietary Navigator software, designed to be intuitive for machine operators to begin using. Furthermore, the machine has a small footprint and, due to its vertical design, allows operators quick access to components and tools in the center. Additionally, the vertical design allows chips and grinding lubricant to flow down to a collection area at the bottom of the center.
