Yamazaki Mazak reports it is putting in a strong sales performance in 2011 and is increasingly bullish about the prospects for the UK machine tool market.

Although UK sales director Tony Saunders declined to give firm numbers, he revealed that sales for the year to date have far outstripped 2010. "Results for the first four months of the year are running at approximately 40% on the same period in 2010, which is a very strong performance."

In particular, Mr Saunders highlighted the contribution made by new machines such as the Quick Turn Smart lathe and the Vertical Centre Smart machining centres. "Both machines have played significant roles in our sales performance, offering customers a high quality, easily programmable machine tool at an affordable price.

"We've also seen strong demand for vertical machining centres, such as the VTC800/30SR, from customers looking for increased flexibility from a large bed, swivelling head and optional rotary table for 5-axis work. This is clear evidence that customers are feeling more and more confident about making investment decisions."

He confirmed that Mazak's Worcester manufacturing facility has doubled production in the last 12 months, with double shifts operating in order to meet demand. "UK-manufactured machines continue to be a strong pull for customers," Mr Saunders concluded.
